Spicy Stirfry Veg on Couscous

I received Zhoozsh! as a birthday present from TheHusband and have been meaning to make something from it ever since (4 months and counting...). The recipes are mostly simple and straight forward, usually with a back story and of course, something to zhoozh it up a bit. The focus however remains on easy to cook, low maintenance, "kuier" type meals.

Tri-Colore Pepper and Lentil Salad

Photo of Bellpepper & Lentil Salad

(Update: I'm submitting this salad to Weekend Herb Blogging #211 hosted by Lynne from Cafe LynnyLu)

When you're feeling all blah about life (which is common for most people around this time of the year), what better way to cheer you up than by injecting some colour into your life? And how could you possibly resist a salad that is both colourful and super-healthy? Bellpeppers are known for their exceptionally high vitamin C content, even though oranges normally steal their thunder. Yes people, a bell pepper has twice the amount of vitamin C that an orange has. How's that for stealing thunder!

Margarita Cupcakes

Photo of Margarita Cupcakes

I recently stumbled upon a great blogging event called Taste & Create. The basic premise is that each blogger gets assigned a partner and the partners have to make something from the other person's blog. This is of course a great way of discovering some great blogs (and recipes) and meeting fellow bloggers.

Daring Cooks Challenge - Sushi (with a twist!)

Get your party hats on people, because I've completed my first Daring Kitchen Challenge! Better late than never, right?

The November 2009 Daring Cooks' Challenge has been chosen by Audax of Audax Artifex and Rose of Bite Me Kitchen. They chose Sushi, specifically Dragon Rolls, Nigiri and Spiral Rolls)

But (and this is a big 'ole butt), like I teased you in my previous post, my sushi had a twist. Better get out your saris and slap on your bindis now, because it's an Indian twist!

Tandoori Chicken Kebabs

I feel like a naughty child today. I signed up for my first ever Daring Cooks challenge and what did I go and do? Miss the deadline! I somehow got the dates mixed up or something.  I intended to make it on Saturday (but then never got round to it - we went shopping instead!), but for some reason didn't realise that the reason I had it earmarked for Saturday was because the due date was Saturday. Oy vey.

Bola-Bola (Filipino Meatballs)

Hands-up who doesn't love meatballs? No you have to put your hands up hiiiiggh, I can't see them. What? Oh there aren't any people like that? Yup,that's what I thought.

Baigan Ka Bharta (Aubergine Curry)

This is very different from the Indian food I normally eat. Yes, it contains some of the same flavours, but somehow the mix of ingredients (or maybe it’s the aubergine base?) amounts to something lighter. More exotic. Superbly tasty. The eggplant almost melts in your mouth, so soft is it, and the tomato-onion sauce beautifully complements it. Definitely a keeper.

Spicy Spinach & Corn Enchiladas

Guess who's finally participating in Meat-free Mondays again? Okay, that wasn't a very difficult guess. Okay, how about this one: guess who likes Mexican food?

Again, maybe not the most difficult one to guess. Okay you got me, I don't have much to say about this, except that it was pretty damn tasty and the spinach sauce on top (if I do have to say so myself) turned out to be an inspired choice.

Sunshine Salad

As a friend whom we had afternoon coffee with remarked today, it's been raining for 24 hours straight over here, starting yesterday afternoon. Crazy right? Although, I must admit, I'm relishing the chance to cuddle up under a duvet in front of the television again - that's just something that's sorely missing from summer! I'm not a big sun-bunny (as is blatantly evident from my blindingly white legs), so I'm quite happy to embrace the wind and rain.

Ropa Vieja (Shredded Beef)

Mojito's, sunshine and sexy latin dancing. At least, that's what I think about when I hear the word "Cuban". Havana nights and such. It makes me want to shake my hair and shimmy my hips. Put on some music and I'll be there, cha-cha-ing away.

Spinach Tart

(Updated from the archives)

This is one of my mom's stock standards and once you taste it, you'll quickly see why. It's a firm favourite with pretty much everyone with the exception of my brother who is a confirmed spinach hater. Well, you win some, you lose some! Can I tell you a secret though? I'll even eat the leftovers straight from the fridge the next day. Yeah, I'm weird like that. Or should I say lazy?

Pumpkin Squash Naan

Pumpkin Squash Naan photo

I am literally beaming with pride. Okay, I suppose not literally, that would imply I'm lit up like some demented Christmas ornament, but fact is, I'm pretty darned proud of myself.

Why, you ask?

Well, I've just (successfully might I add) made my first Indian bread. And it was goooooooooooooooooooooood. Soft and fluffy and chewy and still-warm-from-the-oven... really, does it get better than that?
