Szegediner Gulazsch

Szegediner Gulazsch b-w

The year was 2009. My first taste was accompanied with slight trepidation. After all, we're talking sauerkraut here - a dish not exactly known for it's universal appeal. I say "slight" though, since it was a rainy winter's day, lunch time was nearing and my tummy was feeling decidedly empty. The other food on offer at the German festival looked pretty appealing if you're a big fan of sausages (boy do those Germans looooove their sausage!) or potatoes.

Dublin Coddle with Guinness

Dublin Coddle

You know I never really believed the saying less is more. For me, (mostly) more is more. Especially when it comes to chocolate. And shopping. Come on ladies, you know what I mean. Which is why I was so pleasantly surprised at this very pedestrian meal of essentially boiled potatoes and pork. Sound exciting? Didn't think so.

Malva Pudding (Malvapoeding)

Literally translated as mallow pudding, this is a well-loved traditional South-African pudding. It it seriously sweet and seriously rich but oh-so-mouth-meltingly-delicious. I think every South-African has fond memories of malva pudding, either lovingly made by their ouma (grandmother), or on the poedingtafel (pudding table) alongside jelly and custard at the annual kerkbasaar (church fete).
